Yang Cycle

The biosynthetic pathway of ethylene is as follows:

Methionine → S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) → 5'-methylthioadenosine (MTA) and ACC → ethylene.

MTA is recycled back into methionine, while ACC is oxidized to ethylene, a reaction catalyzed by ACC oxidase.

We found that ACC is a central and irreplaceable intermediate in the ethylene biosynthesis pathway.
